HIV literacy: knowledge that protects and empowers
On 3 March, Ad Sumus – Associação de Imigrantes de Almada (Almada Immigrants Association) promoted an HIV literacy session with the local community, reinforcing the importance of information in health prevention and management.
The initiative took place in two distinct phases: in the first phase, the GAT Almada mobile unit carried out free screening for sexually transmitted infections. This was followed by a training session addressing topics such as transmission, prevention, testing and treatment of HIV.
The aim of this action was to contribute to more informed, safer and stigma-free communities, promoting people’s autonomy in managing their health.
The initiative is in line with the global objectives of UNAIDS, which works to end the HIV epidemic as a threat to public health, ensuring that no one is left behind in access to information, prevention and treatment.
