Community Health Screening for refugees and adult migrants in vulnerable situations
On 22 November, AD SUMUS took part in Action 2.0 of the ACOLHER Programme – Community Health Screening for refugees and adult migrants in vulnerable situations, a community initiative that took place at Monte da Caparica Primary School No. 1 and was aimed at refugees and adult migrants in particularly vulnerable situations.
Promoted by the Portuguese Society for Health Literacy (SPLS), this second edition of community health screening was carried out in collaboration with the Egas Moniz School of Health & Science, Almada City Council, GAT Almada, the Portuguese League Against Cancer and Espaço SUMUS Cidadãos — an AD SUMUS project integrated into the PRR — Communities in Action Caparica-Trafaria.
Throughout the morning, participants had free access to screenings for cardiorespiratory health, diabetes, high blood pressure, mental health and well-being, nutritional health, oral health, and sexual health. The initiative also included personalized support in using the National Health System, an essential help for those facing language barriers or administrative difficulties.
The initiative reinforced the commitment of the entities involved in promoting health, inclusion, and proximity to migrant communities, contributing to reducing inequalities in access to essential care. The organisation expressed its gratitude to all participants and partners who made another moment of community support and empowerment possible.
