Community Health Screening for refugees and adult migrants in vulnerable situations

The Egas Moniz School of Health & Science and Almada Municipal Council, in partnership with AD SUMUS – Almada Immigrants Association and the Portuguese Society for Health Literacy (SPLS), will be carrying out an initiative as part of the ACOLHER Programme – Community Screening for Adult Refugees and Migrants in Particularly Vulnerable Situations. The initiative will take place at the Santo Amaro Youth Centre in Laranjeiro (Almada) between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on 25 October.

The main objective of the programme is to facilitate access to healthcare, promote health literacy and prevent disease through an inclusive, humanised and culturally sensitive approach based on the principles of health promotion and human rights.

During the event, participants will be able to undergo free screening in different areas of health, including:

  • Cardiorespiratory health;
  • Diabetes, dyslipidaemia and high blood pressure;
  • Mental health and well-being;
  • Oral health;
  • Nutritional health;
  • Sexual health, with special attention to pregnancy and postpartum care for migrant women.

The screening is free and is intended for the entire community, particularly adult refugees and migrants residing in the municipality of Almada and its surroundings.

This initiative aims to promote equity in access to healthcare, contribute to the social integration of migrant populations, and reinforce the commitment of partner entities to public health, solidarity, and inclusion.
