Batucadeiras Show d´Africa
Batuque in Cape Verde is a cultural expression deeply rooted in the archipelago’s history. Originating from the interaction between the African slaves brought to the islands and their musical traditions, batuque evolved as a form of resistance and celebration of African identity in the midst of colonial oppression. With captivating rhythms, energetic dancing and lyrics often loaded with historical and social significance, batuque not only provides entertainment, but also serves as a means of preserving and passing on the cultural traditions and collective memory of the Cape Verdean people.
The Batucadeiras Show d’África are a group of Cape Verdean women dedicated to preserving and promoting the culture of batuque in Portugal and beyond. They stand out, not only for their musical skill and percussion talent, but also for their ability to pass on cultural traditions and values through music and dance.
This project was born informally in 2020, with the first rehearsals taking place. The group, currently made up of 13 members, meets regularly once a week on Saturdays at the Ad Sumus headquarters in Laranjeiro, as well as taking part in events. We count on the collaboration of musician Celso Évora, as the group’s conductor.

Gala Gentes com Histórias
This is an event organized by Ad Sumus – Associação de Imigrantes de Almada, in partnership with Almada Town Hall, which celebrates the richness and cultural diversity of the portuguese-speaking communities in the municipality. This event is dedicated to recognizing and paying tribute to people and groups who, through their actions and trajectories, have excelled in areas such as entrepreneurship, sport, education, volunteering and other spheres of social impact.
With the aim of promoting intercultural dialogue and strengthening ties between the different groups that make up Almadense society, the gala also reflects the values of inclusion and cooperation that characterize Lusophony. During the event, there are cultural presentations, tributes and moments of sharing, which highlight the transformative and inspiring role of local initiatives.
By recognizing outstanding personalities and stories, the Lusofonia Almada Gala reinforces the role of Lusophone communities as agents of innovation, integration and social development, celebrating the union between cultures and the commitment to a more inclusive and collaborative future.
